If you're planning on placing a bet with a bookie — think again. On Thursday, the San Mateo Police Department's Special Investigation Unit served a search warrant at the 1900 block of Vista Cay, and arrested Anthony Dedo, 35, who was operating a sports bookmaking operation out of his home.

According to San Mateo Police Sgt. Kevin Raffaelli, investigators had their eye on Dedo for several weeks. Once they entered his house at approximately 6:30 p.m., they discovered approximately $13,000 in cash, betting cards and a phone list of approximately 75 persons who are believed to have placed bets on a wide array of sporting activities.

There were no other illegal activities being committed at Dedo's address, Raffaelli said.

Dedo was transported to San Mateo County Jail where he posted his own bail. Raffaelli said the next step is to contact the people on Dedo's list to gather evidence before going to trial. The investigation is continuing.
