Law Firm Makes Lots of $$$$$ From Class Action Suits

First, never mistake a Berding and Weil lawyer as one who works for you, the homeowner. Yes, you pay their fees, but they don't work for you. What a nice gig for them. Berding and Weil attorneys work for the board. The board is supposed to represent the Association, which is not the same as the Association represents the homeowners. A homeowner's best interest is not necessarily the same as the Association's best interest. And the board defers to attorneys because the board does not want to be sued. And attorneys want to make lots of money.

The Berding and Weil attorneys at your association are not there pro bono (i.e., at no charge). Berding and Weil is at your association to make money, which is the same reason any other attorney would be there. However, Berding and Weil likes to make lots of money. For example, Berding and Weil was one two law firms involved in a class action law suit against Cal-Shake Roof. As in most class action suits, the lawyers make more money than those who have been damaged.

On a settlement amount of almost $3 million ($2,975,000 to be exact), the lawyers for the law firm made over 27% of that for themselves. The law firm requested fees of $812,096 PLUS COSTS (who knows how much that amounted to), leaving those who had been damaged with less money than the lawyers made on the whole deal.
